Phyllida Barlow


Phyllida Barlow, CBE is a British artist who primarily creates sculptures and large installation pieces and greatgreatgreatgranddaughter of Charles Darwin. Barlow was also a professor of art for more than forty years and is a Professor Emerita at the Slade School of Fine Art, University College, London, where she taught artists such as Tacita Dean, Rachel Whiteread and Douglas Gordon. In 2011, Barlow became a Royal Academician Elect. She currently lives and works in London.

Phyllida Barlow was born onApril 1944 in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. Her mother, Brigit , was an author and her father, Erasmus Darwin Barlow, was a doctor and later a private businessman, who was also a greatgrandson of the famed scientist Charles Darwin. She has a sister named Camilla and a brother named Jeremy.
